Mawsmai Cave is a stunning limestone cave found near Cherrapunji in the North East Indian state of Meghalaya, around 4 kilometres from the Cherrapunji Bus Stand. It is one of Meghalaya's most prominent historical caves and one of the greatest spots to visit for Cherrapunji tourism.
The magnificent natural cave, regarded as one of Cherrapunji's most renowned and notable features, attracts a large number of people. Mawsmai Caves are limestone caves that have the distinction of being the only caves in Meghalaya that are sufficiently lighted for tourists to appreciate their natural formations. Although the caves are relatively lengthy, just 150 metres of it is exposed to tourists, with the rest being closed. Years of natural erosion and underground water have sculpted this stunning natural wonder.
The cave has a wide entrance, but it quickly narrows into a constrict path. As far as the cave goes, the interior is quite large, and some of the rooms within resemble an amphitheatre. Visitors must, however, bend and squeeze themselves out of certain areas of the cave. The steady pouring of water from the cave's roof, as well as the numerous shapes of stalactites and stalagmites, may be seen as one enters the cave. In addition, visitors can see how the cave's top and floor are connected together to produce the renowned pillars.
The cave is home to a variety of flora and animals, as well as bats and insects. It is one of the best places to visit for history fans and adventure seekers, although it is not suggested for the elderly or children.
