History of Chandi Devi Temple Haridwar
The following is the legend surrounding the goddess Chandrika. Shumbha and Nishumbha, two demon lords, had seized Lord Indra and hurled the gods out of heaven a long time ago. Parvati gave birth to a goddess after the gods prayed for her. Shumbha was sent a gorgeous woman. Shumbha wanted to marry her, and when he was refused, he dispatched his demon chiefs Chanda and Munda to slay her.
Both are killed by the goddess Chamunda, who was born from Chandika's rage. After that, Chandika takes a break at the summit of the Neel Parvat, where a temple was eventually built to commemorate the legend. The mountain range's two peaks are also known as Shumbha and Nishumbha. The monarch of Kashmir, Suchat Singh, built the Chandi Devi temple in 1929. However, it is thought that Adi Shankaracharya installed Chandi Devi's primary murti in the 8th century.
