Many visitors wonder, "How did Sukhna Lake come to be?" It was built in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Lake Choe, a seasonal stream that originates directly from the Shivalik Hills. In 1974, the Sukhna Reservoir was designed.

Le Corbusier, Chandigarh's architect, and Chief Engineer P.L. Verma, the lake's main creators, presented this lovely lake to the city's residents.

Sukhna Interpretation Centre was inaugurated by honourable Manoj Parida on the 52nd anniversary of Pierre Jeanerette's death. Pierre created the eye-catching building with the water pump that stands in the middle of the lake. A ramp-shaped stairway encircles the cylindrical structure and leads to the terrace.

After three decades, it has reopened. The renovation and restoration were completed by the Chandigarh Administration.

Despite its small size, the museum displays how the lake came to be and other lesser-known facts about it in the form of panels on the walls. The text and photographs were curated by the designated team. Old sketches, drawings, and photographs are on show.
